Rawhide mallets used for tooling leather, cobbler's hammers for shoe repair, Osborne hammers for drive punches and poly mauls all have an important purposes in your leather shop. We stock many types of leatherworking hammers of which many are made in USA by C.S. Osborne. 

The leather working hammer by C.S. Osborne is used extensively in leather shops and shoe repair shops for setting tacks, tapping contact cemented leather together, setting rivets, and flattening leather folds. The convex shape of the hammer head prevents the leather from being marked.

The heavy split hammer by C.S. Osborne makes it easy to drive large hole punches through thick leather as well as for use on large size stamps that require a lot of force. Replacement rawhide faces are stocked for when you may require more after tons of use. 

Lots of different weight mallets and mauls are available for your preference. Leather workers prefer rawhide and poly hammers to strike their leather tools with so they will last longer as opposed to when a steel hammer is used. Metal hitting metal is not a good idea as it will cause the end of the metal tool to mushroom and have pieces break off. 

If you are just starting leather crafting, the poly head mallets are an affordable choice that are used for many purposes in leatherwork. The Bakelite mallet is another good choice for the leather hobbyist.
