Buying Our Leather Hides
our hides are sold by the full piece. We do not cut off pieces for
people. However we do sell belt blanks and some
1 oz thickness = 1/64 inch thick = 0.4 mm
is a natural material, all leather hides have some blemishes such as
range marks or cuts. However hides are graded and the higher
quality hides have fewer blemishes and therefore are worth more.
We stock the higher quality hides so you will get the maximum use out of
the leather. If we receive some hides that are not of the highest
quality, we will list it as economy leather in the list below and sell
it cheaper. The leather color shade can vary slightly from
shipment to shipment when we get new lots of leather even though they
come from the same tannery.
Premium Tooling Leather Cowhide Bend

Premium Tooling Leather Cowhide Bend
This is the bend, which is the best part and strongest part of the hide. A bend is the
side with the neck, belly and shoulder removed. This leather dyes
and stamps beautifully. It is the Cadillac of leather
hides. The underneath side is perfectly smooth. This is
the best leather for belts with an average length between 50 - 55 inches.
3 - 4 oz $ 12.74/sq. ft. CAD
Tooling Belly Leather Cowhide
The belly is the least expensive part of
the hide because it is more stretchy than the rest of the hide and is
oddly shaped and wavier. However it is great for making smaller
items like tool cases and knife cases. For an economical small
leather project, this is a great choice.
7 oz $4.50 /sq. ft. CAD
Russet Tooling Side Cowhide

The back piece is a side with the belly
and neck removed. Since you are left with the bend and part of the
shoulder, you have an excellent quality and strong piece of leather for
making longer projects such as leashes and oversize belts. This
leather dyes and stamps beautifully.
8 - 9 oz $8.02/sq. ft. CAD
Belgium Tooling Cowhide Shoulder
|Belgium Tooling Cowhide
This shoulder makes a nice length for belts and is good for knife
cases. These shoulders are more supple than the typical tooling
leather and are good for making belts if you want a softer feel to a
vegetable tanned belt. It dyes and stamps well. The average
length is between 50 - 55 inches.
8 - 9 oz $ 9.72/sq. ft. CAD
|Short Tooling Cowhide
This leather dyes and stamps beautifully. These shoulders
are not nice rectangles and therefore do not have the length for
belts. They are smooth on the underneath side but might have a rough spot near the end on the underneath side.
it has some range marks on the leather, it is best suited for small projects
such as cellular cases, electronic cases, tool cases, knife cases, coasters etc. Depending where you measure, the
length can vary between 36 - 63 inches.
7 oz $6.09 /sq. ft. CAD
Economy Tooling Leather Cowhide Bend
|Economy Tooling Leather Cowhide
This is the same leather at the Premium Tooling Leather Bend except that
it has more range marks or cuts that make it not suitable for cutting
perfect full length strips. Due to this it is priced more
economically. You can get some belts out of it but the whole hide
cannot be fully utilized for full length strips such as belts.
Because some marks might be in the middle of the leather, there
would be lots of perfect leather on each side of the marks making it
more suitable for smaller projects like dog collars, cellular phone
cases, knife cases and tool cases. The average length is between
50 - 55 inches.
3 - 4 oz $ 8.22/sq. ft. CAD
